Viking Therapeutics said participants receiving less-frequent doses of its investigational obesity drug VK2735 maintained substantially more of their prior weight loss than patients receiving placebo. Those switched to every-other-week dosing retained up to 97% of the weight lost during an initial 21-week treatment period, according to the company. Patients using monthly dosing maintained as much as 90% over the following 12 weeks. The results sent Viking shares up 40% in premarket trading, and the company plans to study oral maintenance dosing.
