British workers are paying nearly £1 billion annually from their own pockets for generative-AI tools, according to Deloitte’s first GenAI Workforce Survey. Of 25,000 workers surveyed, two-thirds had tried services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot, and nearly a quarter used them daily. Seventeen percent paid for at least one workplace tool, while 31% used AI without their employer’s knowledge. Common uses included searching information, drafting emails and summarizing material, saving about 70 minutes per week.
