Roche said its experimental once-weekly obesity drug enicepatide helped overweight or obese patients with type 2 diabetes lose an average 15.5% of body weight in a mid-stage trial. The drug mimics the GLP-1 and GIP hormones to suppress appetite and regulate blood sugar. Patients receiving the highest 24-milligram dose achieved significant HbA1c reductions at 48 weeks, and about 62% reached levels within the non-diabetic range. The company also reported that approximately 2% discontinued because of adverse events.
