WHO and partners in the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines launched a strategy intended to improve the global market for childhood cancer drugs. The initiative focuses on an access barrier especially damaging in low- and middle-income countries, where many children lack appropriate treatment. WHO estimates that approximately 400,000 children develop cancer each year. Since the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer began in 2018, partners say nearly 500,000 children in 90 countries have benefited from stronger care systems and reduced inequalities.
