India recorded their first international meeting with Japan and won a rain-shortened T20I by two runs in Sano. The match was reduced to five overs per side after a wet outfield. Japan dismissed India’s top order rapidly, with Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer all falling before the shortened innings ended at 32-4. Japan then needed eight from the final over, but Axar Patel conceded only five runs as India held on. The result gave both teams a landmark moment ahead of the Asian Games.
