The World Health Organization reported that the Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo had expanded to 61 health zones across six provinces. As of September 7, authorities had confirmed 6,757 cases and 3,267 deaths, a crude case-fatality ratio of 48.3 percent. WHO said transmission remained variable but was still geographically expanding in some locations. Delayed detection, inadequate access to early care, and transmission within health settings continued to increase risk.
