Maja Chwalinska defeated defending champion Elise Mertens 6-2, 6-2 in the Singapore Tennis Open quarterfinals to reach her first semifinal since the 2026 Roland Garros final. The 24-year-old has conceded only 11 games in three matches and recorded her first victory over a top-20 opponent. Chwalinska used varied spin, slices, lobs and accurate serving to prevent Mertens from establishing a rhythm. She did not face a break point until the penultimate game and can now face either Mirra Andreeva or Leylah Fernandez.
